Rules? We don't need no stinkin RULES!
That pretty much sums up the Alaska Cruiser Crew's prefferd approach to rules and structure. But we also realize that we can't lead a group of outsiders with no experience in our kind of back country travel down the trails for a week without organization. Not if we want to keep everything safe and fun. With that in mind, here ya go...
ACT2003 rules
- All vehicles must meet the minimums lists on this website. All required gear and equipment must be on board before leaving the road system. All vehicles and gear will be subject to inspection prior to departing the trailhead.
- No trailers will be allowed on the trail. Exception to this will be vehicles operated by the Alaska Cruiser Crew to carry support gear. Additional exceptions "may" be made on a case by case basis by the Alaska Cruiser Crew. This will only be considered for M416/M101 type trailers, and all coordination MUST be made on the subject, and approval received prior to the 4th of July 2003. Larger or lighter duty trailers will not be considered.
- Dogs will be allowed on this event, with the following stipulations. The animal must be leashed or under effective voice control at all times, and the animal must ride in the vehicle while the group is moving on the trail. This outing is not one which is suitable for having your dog run loose along the trail. We will be traveling long distances - further than most dogs can handle. We will be undertaking numerous river crossings and many will be deep and swift for a dog attempting to repeatedly swim them. There is always the possibility of encountering large wildife, and you definitely do not want your dog face to face with an angry bear sow and cubs who have just been startled by a passing vehicle..and you don't want it chasing after moose or caribou in the distance either...or getting ahold a a porcupine...or repeatly stopping in front of moving vehicles. Or........So long as the dog is kept under control, and travels in the rig we will not disallow them. We do not encourage you to bring them however.
- We do not disallow firearms on the Alaska Cruiser Trek. However for safety considerations, except in the case of an organized and approved target shooting session while the group is camped or taking a lengthy break, all firearms MUST remain stowed and secured in the vehicles AT ALL TIMES. There will be no need for anyone to bring firearms with them on this outing. There will be Alaska Cruiser Crew members who are experienced with the local wildlife and environment who will have readily available and appropriate firearms in the event of such a need. Transporting a firearm across state lines and especially through Canada can be very problematic. We do not encourage you to bring them. If you do choose to, you must let us know before we depart the trailhead.
- The Alaska Cruiser Trek is a relaxed and friendly group undertaking. Input from all participants will be solicited through the affair. However when all is said and done, the Trailboss(es) designated for the group(s) by the Alaska Cruiser Crew will have the final authority on routes, order of travel, stops/length of stops distance to cover, vehicle recovery operations and all other group undertakings. This will hopefully never be an issue as we expect to have a concensus driven aggenda. But sometimes a decision has to be made and if so the responsibility has to be specified.Participants will not separate from their group while traveling, unless it is arranged with and approved by the Trailboss. All activities will be conducted with an awareness of potential environmental impact and an effort to keep such impact to a minimum. We will not tell our participants to adhere to "Tread Lightly" tenets, as these are not always important, or even appropriate to the environment and situations we will be operating in. We will expect a high level of effort to reduce our group's effect on our surroundings to the lowest amount possible. There will be NO litter, debris or trash left behind at any time.
- There will be no alcohol allowed on the trail, no excessive alcohol consumption in any field camp, and no operation of a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants to ANY degree.
- The registered participants will at all times be reponsible for both the actions and the safety of all passengers in their vehicles.
